Using Moola
Families
A shared household workspace that keeps everyone’s sign-in.
A family is a shared view of a household. Each member keeps their own sign-in, their own bank connections, and their own personal workspace. The Family workspace merges everyone's accounts, history, transactions, activity, and milestones, tagged by member.
Create a family
- Open Settings → Family → Create family and give it a name.
- Press Send invite with the other person's email. Moola emails a link, and shows it so you can copy it too.
- They open the link, sign up or sign in with that address, and press Join the family.
Invites are bound to the address they were sent to and expire after seven days. Each person belongs to one family at a time.
Switching workspaces
The switcher at the top of the sidebar flips between Personal and the family. The choice is remembered per browser. In the family workspace:
- Overview gains a "By family member" section.
- Net worth, Accounts, and Transactions gain a member filter.
- Goals shows everyone's milestones added together.
What members can do
| Action | Personal workspace | Family workspace |
|---|---|---|
| Add, edit, remove accounts | Yes | No, accounts are read-only |
| Link or disconnect a bank | Yes, your own | No |
| Recategorize, note, or exclude transactions | Yes | Yes, including each other's |
| Create merchant rules | Yes | Your own only |
| Set a milestone | Yes | No, each person sets their own |
Private accounts
Any account can be marked private when editing it. A private account, its history, its transactions, and activity about it never appear in the family workspace. The owner's personal totals do not change. See Accounts.
Leaving and removing
The owner can rename the family, remove members, or delete the family. Members can leave. None of these move or delete anyone's data; each person's workspace is exactly as it was.
